LYRICS SUMMARY

When first listened to the song may come across as a cute love song with a 'fluffy' exterior, however there's a more sinister nature to be revealed once the lyrics are observed. My interpretation is that it's generally about a toxic relationship in which someone's taking someone for granted/ being dependent on them and needing the other more than wanting them because its comfortable. As relationships aren't always all good, I feel this is more a brutally honest love song. Lyrics are important when creating a conceptual video's for this genre. We will make sure to brainstorm around the juxtaposition of these lyrics .

TONE (AUDIBLE)

The type of musical instruments used in a song can have a big influence on the tone of a song. The musical instruments that are most heard in this song are:

Drums

Acoustic Guitar

Electric Keyboard

Bass Guitar

These musical instruments are all common to the alternative rock sound, but what's interesting is the use of acoustic guitars rather than electric and also the small amount of drumming along with the fact that the keyboard is playing notes rather than chords. This is due to the less intense sound they produce, for example acoustic compared to electric. The select drumming makes the rhythm of the chorus catchy and memorable. The sort of light and quirky sound this creates is contrasting to some of the other songs by the band and generally the genre- therefor when picturing the music video it is hard to imagine it in a serious and dark tone like the large amount of videos I viewed in my conventions vlog. It is also noticeable that the chords are all major, which conventionally in music is associated with happier sounding songs.

SYNERGY

There is a large amount of imagery used within the lyrics e.g. clock, peach, earth etc. Therefor I can see us using these for visuals and playing around with displaying the dark twist to the song. The song is fast pace so there would be a lot of short cuts and a fast tempo to the video. I also see a performance element to the video but it not being the main focus, rather the imagery as our focus group has found performance videos to be predictable and repetitive. As there is two sides to the tone of the song I feel our composition should be bright but in post production we will look to make the footage less saturated to portray the songs somewhat depressing message and the bands demeanor.
