Slaves: Digipak Deconstruction

It was impossible to find images of the digipak sold on CD, this was because the band only promoted their album on vinyl and mp3, for the same reason's as Twin Peak's.

FOCUS GROUP

' This is my favourite album so far because its a really good balance of minimalism and art, like the logo , I just love the hand-drawn style but it can be too much if overdone. It really sets a theme for the band and a memorable image.'

' I like the lack of band images because it just portrays them as artists rather than a manufactured music industry product. I also like the simplicity of the promotional poster and its really impactful visually but not in your face marketing wise'

' I find the album art a bit repetitive which I guess creates memorable images but I don't think its interesting enough. However, I really like that they sell the album as vinyl, this would definitely peak my interest'

' I may be being OCD but I like the consistency of the imagery and typeface within the album. I think this makes the creative design on the back panel all that more contrasting, I also love the disco ball'

'I like the colour scheme and that one inside cover with the band picture, the effects on it. It just really feels like a whole piece and personal to the band with the little doodles and I think just brings they're message across in a more relatable way .'

LESSONS TO CARRY FORWARD

  • Minimalism and repitition is effective when creating a lasting image
  • Aesthetics and Artwork are a key element for creating an appealing product for the Alternative rock genre
  • Band Pictures aren't essential within album artwork
  • Albums with symbolic aspects of the message tend to be preferred by this genres audience
  • It is better within this genre to portray artists as relatable and reasonably average rather than artificial superstars
  • Contrast between foreground and background is better for an impactful image especially when it comes to text
  • Posters need to inform the audience about the product i.e. include release dates, record labels, band name etc.
