Unconventional Music Videos

When looking through the genre of 'Alternative Rock' I found that compared to other genres such as R&B, Pop, Rock etc. One of the conventions were to be unconventional with their promotional music videos, wether this be through style, media, brand or sound.

FILM

Wolf Alice are known for creating unusual narratives, but what I found interesting was the camera quality, as it was portrayed as if it was recorded on film. I also liked that it was set in an old fashioned american style log cabin.

 ANIMATION

Haley Blai's music video was a simplistic and repetitive animation. Although this fits with the songs melodic tempo and short length. This has inspired me to look at stop motion animation.

STOP MOTION ANIMATION

The use of stop motion animation was effective as the jittery movement fit with the songs punchy and intense tempo. I also like the shabby gritty location.

This is another example of how stop motion animation has allowed the band to create a unique and memorable video.

PROP & COLOUR FOCUS 

Often the rock genre can be associated with black, tattoos and long hair. However, more recently it has been noticeable how alt rock bands often explore their 'softer' side and to focus heavily on aesthetics- like in this video with coordinated pastels. I also find it effective how the band members are all filmed separately.
