Location

Location is important as it sets the atmosphere for the music video and allows the audience to see the personality of the band and tone of the song. We will look to convey this through a vibrant setting as well as featuring a dark, sinister outlook, a bitter sweet theme. 

From watching and analysing several alternative music videos I have seen a recurring theme of band performances. Therefor our video's main location will be a performance location. As well as adding another element to our initial concept video, this adds a marketing aspect as it provides familiarity and sells a bands image. We would like to incorporate this convention within our product but for it to dive the video character and an artistic element.  

Our first initial ideas for our filming location, were in the music block where we could have easy access to different instruments making the process simple when filming the band playing. However this does not create a dark alternative look that we want to portray, it has a particular school atmosphere emphasised by the carpets and posters plastered around the several music rooms which does to generate the image we were going for. Our second thought was possibly filming in the drama studio, which has a stage which we can use for the main chorus performance of the band. This also allows us to experiment with different lighting that we were thinking of utilising, to create an artistic yet stylistic element within our video

SHED
This wooden, practice space like American rejects, panic at the disco saving their budget, connection with a similar audience shows a DIY casual setting, representing a cool yet retro theme, while providing a performance like area. The available posters with adjustment would project a dive bar, rebellious type look. This shabby type location can be seen in various music videos of the alternative genre as it represents a casual yet a conventional band image as a rehearsal space. Goodwin's theory shows that location is a large part of the music video as it can create a vibrant and engaging performance while setting the atmosphere of the music video. This location will create a humble and relatable persona.
